The loss of natural teeth can greatly compromise the general health and functionality of the mouth. To restore normal speech and eating, and to prevent the misaligning of surrounding teeth, it is important to replace lost teeth with a prosthetic — one such option is removable dentures. Horizon Dental’s full services in removable dentures in Terrace are encompassed by the following two types of treatment:
Removable partial dentures usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-coloured plastic bases, connected by a metal framework. They attach to your natural teeth with metal clasps or devices, called precision attachments. Precision attachments are generally more aesthetic than metal clasps because they are nearly invisible. Crowns can be placed onto your natural teeth to improve the fit of a removable partial denture; they are usually required with attachments. A partial denture may be used when nearby teeth are not strong enough to hold a bridge, or when several teeth are missing in a single arch.
A full denture, sometimes called “false teeth,” resembles the partial denture in that it, too, is composed of replacement teeth embedded in gum-coloured plastic. Unlike the partial denture, however, the full denture does not contain any metallic appliances. Sometimes used in conjunction with denture adhesive, full dentures provide a valuable prosthodontic option for patients who are missing all of their teeth in a single arch.
